The Communities Product Group encompasses major product areas like Groups, Events and Dating as well as FB App growth, graphing and discovery. This product org is responsible for driving deeper and more meaningful connections across the app, making Groups a stronger product than even before through relevance, personalization, admin products and support, expanding into new Community verticals like Campus and Neighborhood, as well as helping other product teams, like News Feed, know which content to switch to and push out to increase relevance. CPG is at the center of Facebook, Inc.’s top 4 focuses in the year ahead as Mark states in our 2020 Q4 Earnings Call.

As the Data Science Director of the Community Relevance organization in the Communities Product Group, you will be a part of the leadership team responsible for shaping strategy and delivering impact across our worldwide communities growth efforts, ecosystem understanding and quality, product and content ranking. You’ll combine strong product vision with state-of-the-art ranking and recommendations systems to shape our strategy for achieving our ambitious goal of connecting billions of people with communities that are meaningful to them.

You are scrappy, focused on results, a self-starter, and have demonstrated success in using analytics to drive the understanding, progression, and user engagement of a product. You have experience leading and growing a team of data scientists. You have a passion for mentoring members of your team to achieve strong results and continued engagement.

The ideal candidate will have experience building and managing world-class analytics teams, will have experience with large scale ranking and recommendation products, and will have a track record of driving data-informed product impact.
Data Science Director, Community Relevance Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with product, engineering and research and other functional experts to shape a shared, data-driven strategic vision for community products across the company.
  • Define and shape the north star for driving growth, quality and relevance of our community products and ecosystems.
  • Drive product development with a team of world-class engineers, data scientists, researchers, and other functional experts.
  • Deeply understand the communities ecosystem and define and analyze metrics that evaluate our trajectory and inform the success of our products.
  • Translate insights into product direction and empower cross-functional partners to execute in a data-informed manner throughout the entire product life-cycle.
  • Cultivate culture of executional excellence and analytical rigor.
  • Support, develop and grow a healthy analytics organization.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in managing other team members in a formal or informal capacity
  • 5+ years of experience doing quantitative analysis at a technology company, consulting, investment banking, or product management including experience with SQL or other programming languages
  • Experience initiating and drive projects to completion with minimal guidance
  • Experience communicating and representing results of analysis to senior leadership
  • 5+ years of experience with applied statistics or experimentation (i.e. A/B testing) in an industry setting
  • 5+ years of experience communicating the results of analyses to leadership teams to influence the strategy
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with large scale ranking and recommendation systems.
  • Experience with leading analytics for complex ecosystems, preferably social media ecosystems.
  • Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Math, Physics, Engineering, or related quantitative field.
  • Understanding of statistical analysis, experience with packages, such as R, MATLAB, SPSS, SAS, Stata, etc.
  • Experience with large data sets and distributed computing (Hive/Hadoop).
