We’re looking for an experienced visual and systems designer to join WhatsApp’s Foundations team. Our mission is to enable teams to design better interfaces, ship faster, and improve the experience for everyone through quality and accessibility. We do this by providing a comprehensive set of guidelines, standards and infrastructure that define the visual and interactive design of our app. WDS aka WhatsApp’s Design System, is our catalyst for this. It serves as a unified reference for designers and developers to ensure consistency, efficiency, and a seamless user experience across our digital platforms.
Product Designer, WhatsApp Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain a design system of visual primitives, reusable components and patterns that will allow the team to ship high quality work efficiently and consistently
  • Lead and deliver design system projects of broad and/or ambiguous scope owning the design end-to-end (interaction, visual etc.)
  • Define guidelines and best practices to serve accessibility needs at scale amongst cross-functional teams
  • Lead and oversee the user experience of a product from conception to launch in partnership with product managers, engineers, UX researchers and content strategists
  • Provide implementation guidance to engineers and ensure features launch at the highest quality
  • Present designs, prototypes and concepts to cross functional partners and stakeholders
  • Lead and contribute to high-level strategic decisions with the rest of the product and executive teams
  • Give and solicit feedback from others to raise the quality and craftsmanship of the product
Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience building, shipping and maintaining design systems that are broad in scope and span multiple platforms
  • Experience contributing to product direction and strategic thinking while developing product goals, identifying opportunities, and making decisions based on the impact to people and the company
  • Visual design experience with expertise in typography, desktop/mobile UI, color, layout, iconography and aesthetic sense and how these elements impact product function
  • Experienced in accessibility best practices with a track record of building inclusive products across teams
  • Interaction design experience with knowledge of defining how an experience should behave based on understanding people's needs
  • Use appropriate prototyping tools to demonstrate how a particular component, pattern or interaction will work
  • Experience representing work to a broader product team and other leaders, clearly and succinctly articulating the goals and concepts
  • Experience collaborating with product, engineering, research and data to drive decision making
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience connecting your work with other related initiatives across the company while driving collaboration
  • Examples of leadership in non-product dimensions that have made a team stronger and positively impacted the work environment such as taking on mentorship opportunities
