In Enterprise Network Reliability (ENR), our goal is to ensure that Facebook’s enterprise network and related services run reliably, adapt, and grow quickly to provide capacity for the future. We are looking for skilled and motivated interns to join our team, whose mission is to use automation and software engineering to augment the productivity of our enterprise network engineers and deliver automated and self-service solutions for our customers. Our team consists of many levels of experience and backgrounds and our engineers may have previously worked as any of: Site Reliability Engineer (SRE), Systems Engineer, Software Engineer, DevOps Engineer, or Network Engineer. Network Reliability Engineer, Intern Responsibilities
  • Design, implement and maintain systems for deploying, managing and monitoring a complex enterprise network environment that is continually growing.
  • Build systems that are scalable, automated and well-documented.
  • Debug problems in complex interdependent systems, often in production.
  • Work with and improve upon legacy code in existing systems, tools and services.
  • Share an on-call rotation and be an escalation contact for problems related to our products.
  • Work with our Production Engineering teams, leveraging the scale and complexity of Facebook’s Production Infrastructure to solve problems for Enterprise customers.
  • Collaborate with other Enterprise Engineering teams to automate processes, and aid in capacity planning and changes to network architecture.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a degree (AA, BS, MS, PHD) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience coding in at least one language (Python and C++ are all in heavy use).
  • Experience in Linux-based operating systems and networking fundamentals.
  • Experience in at least one of the following: MySQL, DHCP, SSH, DNS, SNMP.
  • Experience with implementing and maintaining solutions for monitoring and alerting.
  • Experience with configuration management tools (e.g. Puppet, Chef or Ansible).
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience of front-end development and technologies such as PHP/Hack, React/Redux.
  • Experience in systems design and architecture.
  • Experience in test-driven development, CI/CD, unit / integration / end-to-end testing.
  • Experience working with IPv6 and/or dual stack networks.
  • Experience with an enterprise network stack, including routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, wireless, VPN, and typical vendor-based, network operating system experience.
  • Intent to return to full-time degree program after completion of the internship.
