As an Optical System Engineer at Meta's Reality Labs, you will be responsible for productizing a display module or system that is core to delivering transformative experiences in AR products. In particular, you will be responsible for evaluating and improving display system performance, driving testing strategies at factories, iterating the display specification throughout the phases of engineering and mass production to meet customer experience. You will work with Process, Product Design, Electrical Engineering, System architecture, Display component teams on technology transfer. You will manage partnerships with other Technology Leaders, TPMs, GSM’s and Operations Teams to build the necessary infrastructure aligned with program goals, schedule and go-to-market strategy. You will join an agile team that is laser-focused on developing winning prototypes, establishing new process capabilities with supply-chain partners, and releasing display systems/products that are fully hardened for high-volume manufacturing (HVM).
Optical System Engineer Responsibilities
  • Lead technical engagement at suppliers to evaluate and develop complete solutions for display system manufacturing, including integration, calibration, test, and data management.
  • Own the health of the interface between the different engineering functions (OMET, Tech Ops, Reliability Engineering, and Process Engineering functions).
  • Collaborate with Sourcing and Operations to define and establish engagement models and implement mass production solutions aligned with product strategy.
  • Identify risks, track and resolve issues through various phases of production. Engage with peer and support teams to transfer and deliver solutions in a seamless and organized fashion.
  • Problem-solve to address multi-part problems with high levels of uncertainty across multiple groups and companies.
  • Willingness and ability to travel 20% time internationally.
Minimum Qualifications
  • BS or MS degree in Physics, Optical Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in optical manufacturing, displays components and/or camera assembly.
  • Experience in bringing up first generation technologies into device form factors.
  • Experience with optical design, optical manufacturing, tolerancing and quality control
  • Demonstrated skills with designed experiments and related statistical data analysis to drive process capability for chemical and mechanical processes.
  • Experience leading specification activity with cross functional teams for end-to-end process.
  • Experience performing and designing DOE, data analysis, SPC control, yield improvement, root cause investigation, FACA, and quality control.
  • Experience with in-line and off-line Quality Control processes.
  • Experience in testing and metrology
  • Experience in working with display vendors, ODMs and CMs, as well as JDM development.
  • Project management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD in Optical Sciences, Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering
  • Optical simulation (Zemax, Fred or light tool).

$170,000/year to $240,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits

Individual pay is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
